The Seven-Point Mind-Training stems from the teachings of the 11th-century Indian Buddhist scholar and contemplative Atisha and was first written down by the 12th-century Tibetan monk Chekawa. This training summarizes the Bodhisattva way of life by integrating theories and practices for the cultivation of ultimate and relative bodhichitta, or the mind of awakening. Beginning with a careful investigation of the nature of the mind and its relation to nature as a whole, resulting in a realization of emptiness and dependent origination, this training then leads one to the experience of profound compassion and the transformation of all experiences into means of furthering one’s spiritual growth. This training is widely taught in all schools of Tibetan Buddhism and provides a practical guide for transformation one’s whole life into spiritual practice.  This retreat will consist of lectures, guided meditations, and times for discussion. The retreat will be held in silence.

The retreat starts at 6pm, for dinner on the 22nd August, and ends at 9am after breakfast on the 29th August.

About Alan Wallace

Alan Wallace is an internationally recognised Buddhist scholar and teacher who has studied and practiced Buddhism for over 45 years. He spent 14 years as a Tibetan Buddhist monk, ordained by H.H. the Dalai Lama and he has studied with many great teachers from the Geluk, Nyingma, Sakya, Kagyu, and Theravada schools. Alan is a world-renowned meditation teacher; specialising in śamatha, vipaśyanā  and Dzogchen, he teaches with unique passion and heartfelt compassion.   He also brings deep insight and extensive knowledge of mindfulness as taught in secular movements and spiritual traditions other than Buddhism.  Apart from his training in Buddhism, Alan has a degree in physics and philosophy of science, and a doctorate in religious studies.  Drawing on this multi-faceted background, he brings many years of dedicated and profound practice and the wisdom of authentic experience to the challenge of integrating traditional Buddhist training with the needs of the modern world.

Bursary Fund

CCN offers bursaries to help cover the cost of the retreat. We believe that it is important that no-one is excluded from the retreat because of low income. We offer a full bursary to members of the ordained sangha, and cover the cost of accommodation for ordained sangha members who do not have the means to attend otherwise.

Others on low income may be offered a bursary depending on their circumstances, but will likely have to cover the cost of accommodation themselves.

If you would like to support our vision of making these teaching as accessible as possible, please consider contributing to the bursary fund, details of which are in the registration form.

If you are awarded a bursary, we will send you a ‘promo code’ to enter on the registration form.
